The separation between mini Simon and older (and hawt) Simon has arrived.

Since Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann: Lagann-hen subbed recently came out, I decided to watch both of the movies, TTGL: Gurren-hen and TTGL: Lagann-hen, in one sitting. TTGL: Gurren-hen covers the anime from episode 1 to episode 15 while TTGL: Lagann-hen covers the after story. I love the anime already so I wanted to see how the movies came out since it’s just the episodes condensed into 2 hours.

TTGL: Gurren-hen: Clear on the plot and the characteristics of some of the characters. Wasn’t completely smooth with the gradual increase of members of the Dai Gurren-dan crew. The short breaks that were added in when a change of pace was needed were alright, however, it seemed like it was the only way to do a transition. Though, I’ll admit that I give them kudos for the way they merged the episodes together since it clearly wasn’t easy. Overall, it’s possible to understand the main plot and the purpose of their journey. I still cried at the parts that I’m supposed to cry, so it’s still good.

TTGL: Lagann-hen: Another one that’s clear on the plot and the characteristics of the characters. Lagann-hen seems like it has better flow than Gurren-hen and the short breaks were taken out this time. Other perspectives were added to the movie that was not in the anime (according to my memory) which made it flow better. Lagann-hen made me notice I love the second part of the series better than the first. The battles and drama are still amazing as well as the suspense. Overall, I liked how Lagann-hen was condensed better than Gurren-hen.

I’m glad that they decided to split the two time periods of TTGL into two movies. I was quite worried that condensing the episodes will diminish the awesomeness known as Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann, but it wasn’t too bad. Of course, if you want more detail in the characters or more suspense (since episodes are only 30 minutes long), you should definitely watch the anime. If you have watched the anime, then watch it again! “Believe in the you who believes in you.”
